Heavy Duty Chrysler External Voltage Regulator Conversion Kit   

Since about 1987 most Dodge and Chrysler Family vehicles have been equipped with externally voltage regulated, ER, alternators, with the voltage regulator control located in the Power Module of the Engine Control Unit, ECU. This is often called the ECC, ECM, EEC, or PCM. Often, especially after installing a high output alternator, the alternator field coil control module in the ECU will fail, leaving you with a charging system where your alternator doesn't work, or it overcharges or undercharges, but does not significantly change other functions controlled by the power module and your engine still runs as it should. Before our ECU bypass kit the entire ECU would have to be replaced at a cost of between $300 and $ labor!.

ECU troubleshooting: If the battery voltage is between 12.8V and 14.7V, your ECU Power Module should be fine. If you alternator is not working or your alternator voltage is above 15 volts you have a problem with your ECU. If your voltage is low you may have an ECU problem or your bridge rectifier in the alternator is failing.
