How to excite alternator
« on: June 26, 2015, 12:42:57 PM »
I have an alternator (GM P/N 13502585).  The internal voltage regulator needs an input from an on-board computer to work.  This is no good since I am using the alternator outside of a vehicle installation.

Is there a replacement (12v) internal regulator I can use?

If not, what external regulator would you recommend?

There doesn't seem to be a replacement regulator for that unit that doesn't require computer communication. You would have to open the unit up and attach wires to the brush holder directly, then run that to an external voltage regulator.
